Concept Drawings
26/08/08
For the last 3 or 4 weeks I’ve been working for Merlin Studios producing concept drawings for a new Sea Life theme park.
I was drawing the in-tank theming, which is what the inside of each tank will look like. I was researching rocks and coral, lumps of driftwood, chains, anchors and then drawing up fairly detailed renders of each tank.
It was a really good challenge, draftsmanship wise, and I enjoyed getting the bus to their studio each day knowing that all I was going to do is draw in pencil all day long.
Oh, and I’m sorry but until the park’s been built that’s all I can show of the actual drawings. If you want to see some new drawings head on over to the sketchblog, I’ve been posting as often as I can.
Pens & Pencils Gallery
22/07/08
I’ve been busily scribbling away and have put a new gallery up of my sketchier style of illustration. For those long term followers of my work you will recognise the style as being close to what I was producing all those years ago in university. I’m enjoying this style way, way too much! More drawings will follow! They all get posted on the sketchblog first so be sure to check that out.
Street Scene
08/07/08
A street scene illustration for an application (I believe it’s for estate agents) flash screen. Aparently this will also be used in promotional material for the software. If I get any of it sent through I’ll post it.
I also developed a style for icons for the application which ended up being unused. I thought they were pretty slick so I’ve posted them below. The originals were 40px by 40px.
There were to be twenty in total, these six are, in order left to right, “House”, “Next”, “Print”, “New Document”, “Mail” and “Person”.
Fin Raziel
04/07/08
I’ve been working with the mighty Fin Raziel on a new logo for the band and some T-shirt designs (and for the geeks amongst us it’s not this Fin Raziel).
Fin are a up and coming post rock band (great riffs, breakdowns and choruses with a nice electronic edge) and with song titles such as “Decompression” and “Disaster” I felt it would be rude to ignore a space theme for their mark. With their previous logo being very “rock” I wanted to stay within the grunge look for the logo but add in a 60’s influenced spaceship and some simple clear setting for the type. With grunge looks I feel people can go crazy with distressing the letters and the whole thing becomes a bit illegible.
Here’s a bigger version of the logo;
I’ll wait until the final Tee design’s been approved and then I’ll post the options.
Warehouse
25/06/08
I’ve been doing quite
a bit of work for Warehouse lately including their
summer’08 logo and a microsite to go with it.
Mother & Baby Awards
25/06/08
Working with the guys
at Bauer I helped design the invite for
the Mother & Baby Awards 2008. We developed
a clever little 2 colour diecut folding invite
in a lovely matt black finish. I also supplied a
keyboard illustration for the job.
London Chamber of Commerce
25/06/08
I recently designed a logo for The London Chamber of Commerce for their “Defence and Security” events and marketing department. It was a fun little job and I particularly like the way the arrows fade in and out of the background.
Changes and V5.2
24/06/08
So, once again things are a changing. Welcome to jamesreekie.co.uk version 5.2!
I’ve restored a news section to this site to show all the work I’ve been doing over the last couple months and kind of project-ize... what that means is... oh you’ll see! To quote my old boss “Well, it ain’t rocket science is it?”.
The image above is a sketchbook spread from my current moleskine. It’s an idea I’m messing arond with in the evenings for a picture book. The main trouble I’m having is with the ending. Normally I just blow everything up but that’s a little... rubbish really. I’ll think of something!
